On 7 October 2023 HAMAS invaded Israel. Over 1,500 people were murdered, 5,500 were wounded (civilians and military) and 251 were kidnapped and taken to Gaza, where they were subsequently subject to rape, torture and murder. The attack was brutal, horrific and barbaric in the extreme on the part of the Muslim militants, which comprised members of HAMAS, resident of Gaza, and other Muslims. They videotaped their actions, including the killings and rapes, torture and dismemberment, as seen in this 3 minute video released by the Government of Israel:

2. Australian-related deaths

A number of Australia-related deaths occurred as a result of the 7 October 2023 HAMAS invasion of Israel. Amongst thse were two women - Australian born Galit Carbone and Roni Eshel, the neice of an Australian resident. In the above photograph from Bondi Beach on 31 November 2023, the uncle of Israeli soldier Roni Eshel can be seen holding a poster indicating that she was at that stage listed as missing, presumed kidnapped (Beazley 2023). It was eventually revealed that she had died on 7 October 2023 during the attack. Roni was a 19 year old non-combative soldier, killed as she was burnt alive in an army command Safe Room, along with 17 others, in a town near Gaza. Eighteen months after the death of his daughter, a soldier killed in Hamas's October 7 attacks, Eyal Eshel criticizes how unprepared the Israeli army was, as it had ignored warnings issued by some of its lookouts. Was Roni Eshel afraid when she sat in front of her surveillance monitors, at 4 am on October 7, 2023? Afraid of being on the front lines, as she sat just 850 meters from the Gaza Strip, in barracks that had been left half empty, as it was the Jewish holiday of Simchat Torah? Eyal Eshel, her father, will never know. That morning, at around 6:30 am, terrorists from the Palestinian enclave launched an assault on the Israeli military base of Nahal Oz, as well as the kibbutz of the same name. On foot, in pickup trucks or on motorcycles, 215 men surged forward, in three successive waves, against the base and its sleeping soldiers, where the battle quickly turned into a massacre. Fifty-three of the 162 soldiers present, many of them young women performing their military service, were murdered within a few hours. Most were caught by surprise and were still in their pajamas. Ten other soldiers were among the hostages taken to Gaza, where two tank operators are still held in captivity. As for Roni, the 19-year-old lookout, she was burned alive in her command post, together with several of her squad mates and a few non-commissioned officers, including a Bedouin scout who had stayed behind to defend the women soldiers to the bitter end.....
