Abstract: During September 2025 Somalia-born Muslim U.S. Congresswoman for Minnesota Ilhan Omar (b.1982) came under public scrutiny for her sudden increase in personal wealth between 2024-2025; statements of primary allegiance to her home country of birth over that of the United States; personal relationships including the claim that at one stage she married a sibling; and criticism of conservative evangelist and debater Charlie Kirk following his assassination on 10 September 2025. As a result, President Trump called for her deportation, criticised Somalia and raised the sibling accusation. This took place in an environment of rising concern over the impact of mass immigration upon Indigenous and Western cultures, especially around the aggressive actions by supporters of Islam to incorporate Sharia law and other anti-democratic beliefs and behaviours into those societies. Claims of race-based and Islamophobic attacks against Omar were overtaken by those concerning corrupt practices and a focus on her role in the war between the Left and the Right as played out in the United States, on political, social and religious stages. The Omar case mirrors activities in other Western countries, including Great Britain, Europe and Australia. Also raised was the possible role of her father Colonel Nur Omar Mohamed (1953-2020) in the Somali Isaaq genocide of 1987-1989 and subsequent attainment of asylum in the United States in 1995 under likely false pretenses.

1. From Mogadishu to Minneapolis

According to her Wikipedia entry, Somalia-born Ilhan Abdullahi Omar (b.1982) arrived in the United States with her family as a refugee during 1995, following the fall of the Marxist Siad Barre government in 1991:

.....Her father Nur Omar Mohamed was a colonel in the Somali Army under [President] Siad Barre, and served in the Ogaden War (1977–78). He also worked as a teacher trainer. Omar's mother, Fadhuma Abukar Haji Hussein, an ethnic Benadiri, died when Omar was two. She was raised by her father and grandfather, who were moderate Sunni Muslims opposed to the rigid Wahhabi interpretation of Islam. Her grandfather Abukar was the director of Somalia's National Marine Transport, and some of Omar's uncles and aunts also worked as civil servants and educators. She and her family fled Somalia to escape the Somali Civil War [1993] and spent four years in a Dadaab refugee camp in Garissa County, Kenya. Omar's family secured asylum in the U.S. and arrived in New York in 1995 (Wikipedia 2025).

Omar attained citizenship in 2000, at the age of 18. On 9 August 2016 she was elected to the Minnesota House of Representatives as the Democratic-Farmer-Labor (DFL) representative for the 60B district in Minneapolis. On 6 November 2018 she was then elected to the U.S. Congress as a member of the Democratic Party representing the 5th Minnesota Congressional District. Throughout this period Omar attended university and raised a family. During her political career she has expressed extreme Left (Marxist) political and pro-Muslim religious views.

2. Marriage and money

Arising out of President Trump's comments during September 2025, Ilhan Omar's partner relationships since 2002 came under scrutiny. They have varied, within the context of both faith-based Muslim and official marriages, as follows:

  • 2002 - Omar becomes engaged to Ahmed Abdisalan Hirsi (nĂ© Aden) and subsequently has a faith based Muslim marriage. They sire two children.
  • 2008 - Omar and Hirsi have a faith-based divorce.
  • 2009 - Omar official marries Ahmed Nur Said Elmi on 2 December. Elmi is a British Somali. There are accusations that Elmi was Omar's siblings and the marriage was to facilitate immigration to the United States.
  • 2011 - Omar and Elmi separate.
  • 2012 - Omar and Hirsi reconcile and have a third child.
  • 2017 - Omar and Elmi legally divorce.
  • 2018 - Omar and Hirsi legally marry.
  • 2019 - Omar and Hirshi officially divorce on 5 November.
  • 2020 - Omar officially marries Tim Mynett in March.

Mynett was a consultant who subsequently worked on Omar's political campaigns. it appears that much of his wealth was accumulated as a result of this association with his wife's career. As the following videos reveal, the heat around Omar rose when during 2025 financial returns were released concerning the status of both the Congresswoman and her husband, with possible conflicts of interest in regards to his apparently receiving millions of dollars from her campaign and other public funds.

Ilhan Omar's new worth skyrockets to $30 million - What's going on?, Nellie Miranda, 4 September 2025, YouTube, duration: 7.58 minutes.

The financial accusations set the scene for further scrutiny when she made disparaging comments about Charlie Kirk following his death.

3. Charlie Kirk issue

Following Omar's comments upon the assassination of Charlie Kirk on 10 September 2025, which merely continued her previous criticism of the conservative evangelist, President Donald Trump called for her deportation. He also raised the rumour that Omar and Elmi were siblings and had married illegally during 2009 in order for the latter to attain US citizenship. Trump posted as evidence of this a copy of their marriage licence application.

This claim had been raised by Somalia based sources since 2016, but debunked by a number of American media sources over the years. Despite this, Trump and his supporters intimated that it could, and would possibly, be used to deport Omar back to Somalia. This not only opened Omar up to worldwide media attention, but also brought to public notice issues of concern around the Somalian diaspora in the United States, focussed as it was in the state of Minnesota and its capital Minneapolis. This exposure revealed instances of widespread corruption and racial gerrymandering in regards to the various political and electoral processes engaged in by US-based Somalians and expatriates. The two most prominent fraud cases were:

  • $8 million Medicaid fraud involving 8 Somalian residents in Minnesota
  • $400 million PPP Loan labelled the Feeding the Future program during the COVID era which purported to provide food for children in Minnesota but actually funneled money back to Somalia.

This public exposure, and engagement with Omar and the Somalian community in Minnesota by right-wing YouTubers since February 2025, also revealed a recent rally whereby it was stated that the politician's loyalty was to her home country, and not to the United States, and in which the Congresswoman see to concur.

Somalis took over Minnesota - the proof, Nellie Miranda, 25 September 2025, YouTube, duration: 9.42 minutes.

In the post Charlie Kirk assassination environment this raised red flags amongst conservatives and further increased so-called hate speech in the direction of Omar and Somalian activities in Minnesota. Her anti-American states began to be highlighted, including that in an Al-Jezeera interview wherein she refused to discuss Islam-related violence in the US and instead called for "white men" to be monitored. As a US Congresswoman such comments opened her up to criticism and accusations of unpatriotic behaviour.

4. Immigration issues

Arising out of the allegations regarding the marriage between Ilhan Omar and Ahmed Nur Said Elmi between 2009 and 2017, an FBI investigation was carried out, for which the outcome was never revealed. It is likely President Trump was briefed on this and, as a result, raised the issue and released the 2009 marriage notification certificate. The issue gives rise to immigration fraud accusations around Omar and her father, many of which are referred to in detail in the following video.

Rep. Ilhan Omar immigration fraud exposed? Omar’s Father hid secret Somali warlord past, The Liz Wheeler Story, 1 October 2025, YouTube, duration: 53.26 minutes.

The main issues arising from this video are that:

  • Omar and Elmi are siblings.
  • Somalia is one of the world's most corrupt country.
  • Her father Nur Omar Mohamed (d.2020) was a senior military official and colonel involved in the Somalia Isaaq genocide in which more than 200,000 people were killed as part of a repressive Marxist revolutionary regime.
  • Immigration fraud was committed by Ilhan Omar's father in bringing the family to the US during 1995 under the pretense of being refugees.

The video suggests that Omar was heavily influenced by her father and the regime she was raised under. This was further developed in the following X postings from 2025:

* January 2025 - Somalilanders:

Ilhan's father, [Colonel] Nur Omar Mohamed, General Mohamed Ali Samatar and Yusuf Abdi Ali, aka Tukeh came to the US as innocent refugees, but they were the right hand men of General Mohamed Siyad Barre. They committed the second worst genocide in Africa history against the people of Somaliland. Colonel Yusuf Abdi Ali was deported from the US just last month [20 December 2024] because of the crime he committed. General Mohamed Ali Samatar was found guilty about the crime he committed in the US Court. Ilhan's father is still free [NB: he died in 2020].

* 5 February 2025 - Ian Miles Cheong:

Ilhan Omar's father, Nur Omar Mohamed, was not just any refugee - he was a key figure, a colonel in the brutal, genocidal army of Somali dictator Siad Barre. The regime he served was responsible for the Isaaq genocide, a massacre that claimed over 200,000 Somali lives. After the regime collapsed, Mohamed didn't escape as one of the oppressed - he fled as a toppled regime operative to the United States, bringing his family with him. He wasn't a refugee seeking freedom. He was part of the very machinery of oppression that devastated Somalia.

The Somaliland Chronicle of 25 July 2025 states the following:

Based on his position, loyalty to the regime, and his role in the military, it is virtually certain that [Nur Omar Mohamed] had intimate knowledge of and involvement in the planning, conception, direction and execution of the genocide.

Omar's father died in 2020 and was not subject to the post-2022 investigations into Somalian military involved in human rights abuses and subsequently given asylum in the United States. It has been suggested that if he is found to be guilty of such crimes, then the refuge provided by the US back in 1995 could be removed and his family members subject to deportation.

5. AI - Senator John Kennedy revelations

On 25 September 2025 a YouTube video (presented below) was released which comprised the supposed retelling of a presentation by Senator John Kennedy of a case against Congresswoman Ilhan Omar, accusing her of corrupt practices, mostly of a financial nature. Though obviously a ChatGPT AI fiction, it also appears close to truth, and based on real actions and activities.

This is urgent! You won't believe what Senator John Kennedy just exposed about Ilhan Omar, Cicero Alencar, 25 September 2025, YouTube, duration: 69.07 minutes.

The Ilhan Omar case covers a myriad of issues which are plaguing Western societies in the 2020s, from within and without. These include political corruption, racism, the Left vs. Right agenda, so-called hate speech and cancel culture, mass immigration from Islamic countries, refuge to criminals, the aggressive intervention of supporters of Islam into democratic societies, with the latter threatening traditional Western cultural practices and norms such as openness, accountability, antidiscrimination, religious freedom and the rights of women. Though labelled Islamophobia, the threats of jihadists and Sharia law are real and go to the heart of what it means to be a democracy. In seeking to accommodate such ideas under the banner of multiculturalism, Western democracies have threatened their very survival and the sustainability of their long-held often Christian-based legal frameworks. Congresswoman Omar in unapologetically attacking aspects of the cultural and legal norms of her adopted country - often with the support of fellow Americans - is revealing to the world some of the genuinely held concerns in going down that path. As a result, there has arisen a pushback seeking to maintain Western traditions in the face of internationalisation and homogenization of cultures, with Islam playing an increasingly prominent role as it pursues its anti-democratic, faith-based agenda.

Is this Islamophobia on the part of the present writer? Yes, and for good, practical reasons. Events in Great Britain, Europe, the United States and Australia during 2025 are testament to the concerns highlighted with the Omar case, ranging from corruption through to the negative impacts of mass immigration in recent years. As a long time supporter of Leftist ideals, the present writer would seek a return to Socialist-based, conservative Left values and a Middle-way approach to the future, where the best of all worlds are adopted, and the worst rejected. Peace, compassion and multiculturalism can exist in harmony, and did exist in countries such as Australia for decades following the end of World War II. Extremism from both the Left and the Right is just that - extreme - and must be confronted and rejected. Hatred, whether in speech, action, or religious belief, must also be moderated and free speech seen as the basis for any open and free society. The world is a confused, partisan mess at the moment, and needs an urgent reset.

Somaliland - 'Kill all but the crows' Part 1: People and Power, 17 June 2016, Al Jazeera English, YouTube, duration: 26.00 minutes. Abstract: To much of the world, Somalia has a fearsome reputation. It is seen as one of the most dangerous places on the planet - a failed state that is widely believed to be home to warlords, pirates and terrorists. But in the north of the country, at least, the reality is different. Somaliland is an autonomous enclave with its own flourishing capital city, Hargeisa. Though a long way off from receiving international recognition as an independent state, it is a haven of peace and stability when compared with the rest of Somalia. But Somaliland has its dark side. Within living memory its citizens fell victim to the most savage of state-sponsored atrocities. General Siad Barre - the ruthless dictator who ruled Somalia from 1969 to 1991 - went to war with the clans who inhabited the area. Believing them to be supporting a rebellion against his regime, he took revenge by sending in his army with a mandate to "kill all but the crows". The city of Hargeisa was virtually destroyed during intense and pitiless bombardment. Many thousands of people were killed or driven into exile. Barre's soldiers, meanwhile, tortured and murdered as many as 50,000 others - most of them civilians - and buried their bodies in mass graves. Now, as those who still live in this region try to secure their future, some feel those past agonies should be re-examined and those responsible held to account. In this exclusive two-part investigation, People and Power meets a community coming to terms with the horrors of the past and joins forces with a group of forensic investigators and human rights activists attempting to bring an alleged war criminal, Yusuf Abdi Ali, also known as Colonel Tukeh, to account.
