Abstract: Both Australia and the United Kingdom began 2026 with controversy surrounding two unrelated Islamic activists and anti-Semites - the Egyptian political activist and Muslim, Alaa Abd el-Fattah (b.1981) who was granted British citizenship in 2021 - though never having entered the country - and brought to England by the British Labor government in December 2025; and Australian born Randa Abdel-Fattah (b.1979) whose parents are Egyptian and Palestinian and who has freely expressed anti-Semitic views and other objectionable Islamic ideologies over the years since the early 2000s. Both proved to be Muslims holding what many in the West consider extreme views, such as anti-semitism, aligned with their adherrence to the Qur'an and the teachings of Muhammad. The fact is, however, their views are merely orthodox. In regard to Alaa, controversy focused around both his racist and objectionable tweets from the 2010s and the fact that he was granted British citizenship and brought into the country from an Egyptian prison as a hero of the Left. For the Australian Randa, her ongoing controversial statements against Israel and promotion of Islamic ideology come into conflict with the norms of Australian society. Both individuals reveal the real problems facing the West with the rise of Islam under the direction of the Muslim Brotherhood since 1928, and the focus on destruction of the Jewish state of Israel. Based as the West is on Judaeo-Christian spiritual values and Greek democratic philosophies, the inherent conflict between the West and Islam can be seen in the actions of Alaa Abd el-Fattah and Randa Abdel-Fattah. They reflect the subtle, and often covert efforts by Muslims to "conquer" without force democratic societies and transform them into Islamic states subject to Shariah law.

1. Islam's kids gloves

The present writer is a 69 year old Lefty from Australia who, in October 2025, decided to throw off his rose-coloured glasses for a moment and apply a critical eye to the subject of Islam - something he had never done previously. Why? Because he never found any need to do so. He did not know any Muslims, and his Christian upbringing and later adoption of the teachings of the Buddha and His Holiness the 14th Dalai Lama provided him with all the spiritual backup he desired. Needless to say, preparation of a blog entitled The Muslim Brotherhood in Australia as the first step into the murky waters of history opened up a veritable can of worms, leading the writer early in November to publically apologize on Facebook for his ignorance and naivety over the years. It was that bad. The main issue was that in never applying critical thinking to many of the issues he defended and promoted during his lifetime, and relying on media reports for his information, the writer had made many stupid mistakes and realised that, in fact, he was on "the wrong side of history". To put it more bluntly, he was not on any side of history for he did not know any of the history of the development of Islam, or the life of Muhammad and the ideology based on the Qur'an. For example, he discovered that since 622AD Islam had been carrying out a program of brutal repression and warfare aimed at nothing less than world domination through the implementation of global caliphates as Islamic States under a system of Qur'an-based law known as Sharia.

This ideology - it was not a religion as those in the West know it - sought the death and subjugation of all peoples who did not submit to Islam and declare themselves Muslim. It was especially brutal against Jews and Christians, and remains so to this very day, though publically denies it. Having woken up to this during a period in which the failings of Woke were being revealed, a deep dive into the history of Islam over the last fourteen centuries revealed not only the darkness of its activities but also the covert nature of them. Most especially, and most recently, this had included infiltrating the Western Left through its weakness for humanitarian issues, resulting in a shared hatred for its own history and activities, and a vilification of Jews / Israel, the United States, democracy, feminism and open, accountable societies where freedom of speech and critical thinking are core. Realizing that, for some unknown reason (? the wealth of the oil-rich Arab states, the statement that Islam was a "religion"), government and the media had largely treated Islam with kid gloves since the end of World War II, despite the increasing prevalence of Islamic terrorism. All of which brings us to Alaa Abd el-Fattah.

2. UK - Alaa Abd el-Fattah

Alaa Abd El Fattah

Born in Egypt during 1981 to activist parents, he was granted British citizenship in December 2021 due to his mother having been born there during a visit by his grandmother in 1956. He had no ties with the UK and had spent over a decade in Egyptian jails due to his activism against presiding governments. As a result of the latter, and a published edition of his various writings entitled You Have Not Yet Been Defeated, in 2021 he was lauded by many Leftist in the West as a writer and freedom fighter for democracy.

This lobbying resulted in his being released from prison in Egypt during September 2025 and arriving in England on 26 December amid much fanfare, including a welcome by the English Prime Minister Kiers Starmer. However, a few days later previous social media posts were revealed which caused many of his supporters, including those in government, to question their actions.

FREE ALAA campaign, United Kingdom, 2025.

As revealed in the following presentation from January 2026 by British comedian and commentator Leo Kearse, a deep dive into his views as expressed on social media during the 2010s revealed views that were clearly not aligned to those of the West and, in fact, closer to the "jihad of the sword" Islamist ideology causing so much terror around the world, both within and without Muslim societies.

Leo Kearse, Why do they want him here? Extremist Alaa Abd el-Fattah hates Britain - but lefty celebs LOVE him, Leo Kearse, 3 January 2026, YouTube, duration: 19.14 minutes.

The Leo Kearse presentation is a revelation, and a wake-up call to all those of the Western Left (and Right) who take public figures at face value and do not seek to know all the significant elements of who they are and what they believe, primarily in the public domain, but also privately where appropriate. In the case of el-Fattah, the public domain material is more than enough to cause concern. It includes material reproduced below, as seen in the Kearse presentation and elsewhere. The following video addresses the case with specific regard to the role of the European Convention on Human Rights ECHR (1950) and the European Court on Human Rights.

As noted by Kearse, following his arrival in England during December 2025 el-Fattah was welcomed by the Left, and initially announced as a keynote speaker at a upcoming UK Greens conference. As a member of the Australian Greens, the present writer would question the wisdom of that decision to include him in the speaker list, especially when a full revelation of his beliefs and past actions is not yet available. It is clear that whilst on the surface el-Fattah may appear as a Nelson Mandela-like figure - though very much less than - the release of the Tweets puts paid to that, though the Left may choose - as Christians - to "forgive him" in this instance.

In light of the bad press and controversy, el-Fattah claims that he no longer holds the views he expressed in the tweet, and that he apologises for them. However, it must always be remembered that as part of Islamic ideology (aka the Muslim playbook), it is permitted to lie, cheat and deceive in spreading Islam, just as it is permitted - nay encouraged - to kill innocent people if they are not Muslim. This is clearly outlined in the Qur'an and subsequent Islamic teachings. Therefore, as Christians we are not obliged to accept his words, or act with contrition and forgiveness towards him. Why? Because Islam has for over fourteen centuries been seeking the destruction of Judaeo-Christianity and it is very likely that el-Fattah still holds his previously stated beliefs and will do anything to ensure that he is not deported back to Egypt. This was confirmed by the BBC on 31 December 2025 (Kenber 2025).

Kearse interestingly comments on el-Fattah's family. The British journal Jacobin outlines it as follows:

Alaa comes from a family with a rich history of activism and dissent. His father Ahmed Seif el-Islam, a human rights attorney, was arrested in 1983 for dissenting against the government and was imprisoned for five years. His mother Laila Soueif is a political activist, a professor of mathematics at Cairo University, and the sister of the renowned Egyptian novelist Ahdaf Soueif. Alaa’s sister Mona Seif is also a political activist who uses her platform to point out her government’s human rights abuses. It is through Seif’s posts on social media that Alaa’s supporters are able to receive updates on his condition. His other sister, Sanaa, is a filmmaker and activist currently serving an eighteen-month prison sentence (el-Aasar 2021).

Apparently his mother is a committed Muslim. And his sister's tweet on 7 October 2023 endorsed the Hamas horrific and brutal invasion of Israel which resulted in the killing of 1,200 innocent Isrealies - men, women and children - the torture and maiming of many, and the kidnapping of 250. It reads as follows, as she comments on the sick videos made by the terrorists as they carried out the slaughter, rapes, torture and kidnappings:

Mona Seif @Monasosh Something out of a sci fi movie. I guess it take a special kind of imagination to find new ways of resisting an extremely advanced occupation army [Israel's] whose war crimes are constantly justified and endorsed by some of the most powerful governments! [viz. US, UK] 10.57 07/10/2023

El-Fattah responded to the revelation of the tweets on 29 December 2-25 as follows:

I am shaken that, just as I am being reunited with my family for the first time in 12 years, several historic tweets of mine have been republished and used to question and attack my integrity and values, escalating to calls for the revocation of my citizenship. Looking at the tweets now - the ones that were not completely twisted out of their meaning - I do understand how shocking and hurtful they are, and for that I unequivocally apologise. They were mostly expressions of a young man’s anger and frustrations in a time of regional crises (the wars on Iraq, on Lebanon and Gaza), and the rise of police brutality against Egyptian youth. I particularly regret some that were written as part of online insult battles with the total disregard for how they read to other people. I should have known better. Looking back I see the writings of a much younger person, deeply enmeshed in antagonistic online cultures, utilising flippant, shocking and sarcastic tones in the nascent, febrile world of social media. But this young man never intended to offend a wider public and was, in the real world, engaged in the non-violent pro-democracy movement and repeatedly incarcerated for calling for full equality, human rights and democracy for all. Today, this middle aged father firmly believes all our fates are entwined and we can only achieve prosperous and safe lives for our children together. All the initiatives I’ve led reflect this. I must also stress that some tweets have been completely misunderstood, seemingly in bad faith. For example, a tweet being shared to allege homophobia on my part was actually ridiculing homophobia. I have paid a steep price for my public support for LGBTQ rights in Egypt and the world. Another tweet has been wrongly interpreted to suggest Holocaust denial - but in fact the exchange shows that I was clearly mocking Holocaust denial. I take accusations of antisemitism very seriously. I have always believed that sectarianism and racism are the most sinister and dangerous of forces, and I did my part and paid the price for standing up for the rights of religious minorities in Egypt. I faced a military tribunal and imprisonment for defending Christians in Egypt falsely accused of violence. This weekend was supposed to be the first time I celebrated my son’s birthday with him since 2012, when he was one year old. I have been imprisoned in Egypt for almost his entire life for my consistent promotion of equality, justice and secular democracy. That included publicly rejecting anti-Jewish speech in Egypt, often at risk to myself, defence of LGBTQ rights, defence of Egyptian Christians, and campaigning against police torture and brutality - all at great risk. And, indeed, my freedom was stripped from me for these defences of human rights. These values are core to my identity. It has been painful to see some people who supported calls for my release now feel regret for doing so. Whatever they feel now, they did the right thing. Standing up for human rights and a citizen unjustly imprisoned is something honourable, and I will always be grateful for that solidarity. I have received huge empathy and solidarity from people across the UK, enough to win me my freedom, and I will be forever grateful for this.

4. Australia - Randa Abdel-Fattah

To hell with you all. Every last Zionist. May you never know a second peace in your sadistic miserable lives.... [They have] no claim or right to cultural safety. (Randa Abdel Fattah)

During the latter part of 2025 and beginning of 2026 controversy arose across Australia around the exclusion of Randa Abdel-Fattah from the Adelaide Writers Festival in light of the recent (14 December 2025) Bondi Beach massacre by two Muslim men - one from Pakistan and the other, his son, born in Australia. Members of the Festival's controlling board resigned; a large number of participants withdrew in protest; and eventually the Festival was cancelled. This was problematic on a number of competing fronts, including the following:

* Fattah's exclusion from the Festival was an attack on free speech in Australia.

* Fattah's public anti-semitism, arising our of her Muslim upbringing and identity, was objectionable in the extreme with the open, free, democratic society of Australia.

* The intervention of the South Australian Premier Malinauskas in calling for Fattah's exclusion from the Festival was both free speech in action but also inappropriate political interference.

* Fattah's hypocrisy in condemning her exclusion from the Festival was revealed through her own previous calls to exclude writers from the Festival due to their anti-Islamic views.

As with her British / Egyptian namesake, Randa was very public in expressing views which arose out of her adoption and active promotion of Islamic ideology. These were orthodox Islamic views, not so-called "radical" views, and they were antithetical to the basic moral, ethical and legal tenets of the Western society into which she was born - Australia - and to which it was assume she would naturally adhere to, or express allegiance to. The fact of this variance was revealed in her proclamation that she was Palestinian - Australian, though she was born and raised in Australia; her mother was Palestinian and her father Australian.

For & Against

Randa Abdel-Fattah is a polarizer. She represents one side of a polarization of Western society whereby Islam is presented as a "religion of peace" when in fact it is the most warlike and hateful of ideologies. On the other side are individuals such as the present writer who, though a member of the Left, is also a critical thinker and in regards to any issue of concern does a deep dive, looking into "both" sides and assessing what is truth, what is manipulation (misinformation / disinformation) and therefore how to best proceed rather than get caught up in deceptive and erroneous hate wars. The two videos below present aspects of Abdel-Fattah's polarizing nature. In the first, she is interviewed by a fair-minded journalist who never pushes back on responses to questions, and therefore allows Abdel-Fattah's academic lecturing in support of her actions and defence of her hateful rhetoric (viz. anti-semitism) to gain free expression. In the second she is severely criticised from the outset by the podcast presenter who overviews her activity with much negativity. To experiences both sides in this manner is incredibly useful in revealing the context of current political debate. For example, it is clear from Abdel-Fattah's emphasis on Palestine and her status as a Palestinian (not as an Australian) that "Save Palestine = Kill the Jews" has some truth to it in line with orthodox Islamic ideology, even if it is toned down to "Hate the Jews" as in anti-semitism.

Randa Abdel-Fattah speaks to Nour Haydar about the Adelaide festival, Guardian Australia, 16 January 2026, YouTube, duration: 24.52 minutes.

How Randa Abdel-Fattah destroyed the Adelaide Writers' Festival, Daily Insight, 13 January 2026, YouTube, duration: 8.22 minutes.

The differences between the two videos is chilling. How can an individual such as Randa Abdel-Fattah exist in such distinctly different realms and be perceived as such? What is the truth, or are both portrayals ultimately true and it is up to the individual observer to decide which persona they will go with? For the present writer it is a mixture of both, namely, understanding where Abdel-Fattah is coming from - having himself worked in academic for almost three decades - but appalled by her actions and what she represents in such a powerful way.  Yes, she may be a mother, a writer, an academic, a teacher, a human rights activist; but she is also a Muslim, adhering to an Islamic ideology which is full of hate and generates fear. The latter is ironic, as her academic career has been built on the subject of Islamophobia; yet her work is a direct expression of why that term is a nonsense term, as she, along with Islamic teachings, generates real, reasonable and rational fear. No, it is not a phobia (an irrational fear) to fear Islam.

Controversy also arose during February 2023 when the New South Wales Premier expressed concern over the inclusion of Randa Abdel-Fattah in the Newcastle Writers Festival of March that year.

5. Randa's views

* 2023, 9.20pm, 7 October: X - hateful comments in support of the HAMAS invasion of Israel, resulting in the brutal and horrific massacre, rape and kidnapping of Jews:

All the Zionists staying up tonight hammering out op eds at their keyboards. Brace yourselves for the coloniser cries victim op eds taking up prime space in establishment media in the next days.

* 2024, 7 October: X - threatening Jewish people ("Zionists) with the creation of unsafe environments in which to live"

If you are a Zionist you have no claim or right to cultural safety. And it is my duty as somebody who fights all forms of oppression and violence to deny you a safe space to espouse your Zionist racist ideology. It is the duty of those who oppose racism, misogyny, homophobia and all forms of oppressive harm to ensure that every space Zionists enter is culturally unsafe for them.

* 2024, 20 October: X - calls for the destruction of Israel"

The goal is decolonisation and the end of this murderous Zionist colony.

* 2024, October: TikTok - hateful words towards Jews and Israel

We refuse: Dismantling the Zionist state; it never had the right to exist; it is a violent squatter; and a stain on humanity.

* 2025, August: X - Marches for Palestine and proclaims the destruction of Israel and a genocidal call for the murder and dispossession of Jews:

Historic day today on Gadigal [Sydney] land. We march for Gaza, for freedom, justice and liberation of Palestine from the river to the sea.
