NB: The following account was substantially written between 8-14 August 2026, prior to news of the death of Jason Arday. It reflects the public discourse during that period. A postscript at the end of this article addresses subsequent commentaries and poses the question: Who killed Jason Arday?

Abstract: Jason Arday was granted the 2002 Professorial Chair in the Sociology of Education at England's Cambridge University during March 2023. He was lauded at the time for being young and Black and the first such appointment. His research was also called "the best in the world" by a senior academic. From June 2023 claims of plagiarism were first raised against him and brought to the attention of Cambridge. Subsequent to this, in late 2025 the issue of plagiarism within his 2015 PhD thesis and other academic outputs came to the notice of the Times Higher Education Supplement. Despite successful efforts at the time by the academy and Arday to bury the story - in a number of instances through the intervention of police and legal intimidation - during late July and early August 2026 the public was informed of claims that he was both plagiarist and fantasist in regards to his life story and constructed CV. As a result, Arday resigned from his position at Cambridge on 5 August 2026 when Cambridge decided to investigate the claims. Accusations were subsequently made that Arday was not only responsible for his fall, but a victim of the WOKE / DEI (Diversity, Equity and Inclusion) / Critical Race Theory (CRT) ideologies that had developed in, and spread throughout, Western academic institutions since the early 2010s. As academia's young, Black "poster boy" of CRT, Arday was clearly used by Cambridge from March 2023, and other universities before that, wherein he was ultimately placed in a position beyond his competency. In hindsight Jason Arday was clearly both perpetrator and victim, falling from grace due to plagiarism, an unwarranted professorship, and a promiscuous personality. Also victims worthy of consideration in this sorry saga are his students. Arday's likely suicide on 14 August 2026 denied him the opportunity to publically address his actions and get on with life as father, friend and Fellow. His subsequent deification and claims of public lynching and murder by media ignore the facts surrounding those activities.

The idea of meritocracy is great in theory, but in actual practice it falls time and time and time again, because meritocracy in itself is not equal. There is no equity in meritocracy. 1. Fall from grace

The following account extends from the hilariously funny to the deeply tragic. It is a brief biography and comprehensive list of the claims of Jason Arday (1985-2026), former Professor of Sociology of Education at Cambridge University, England. Some of the claims are false; others fact; and yet others exist in that grey area between, comprising a fantastical expansion of real events. Following on months wherein his academic credentials were questioned, and a media blitz which referred to his appointment as an example of WOKE / DEI ideology using a selection process not based on merit, Arday announced his leaving Cambridge University on 5 August 2026.

At the time of his appointment in March 2023 he and others proudly pronounced the fact that he was young, Black and neurodivergent, having "ticked the boxes" around Critical Race Theory when it came to other aspects of his private and professional life. Following the release in late July 2026 of reports pointing to him being both plagiarist and fantasist, some individuals and organisations - including Cambridge University - defended him and initially claimed the claims were "vile" and racially driven; others pointed to the overwhelming evidence of plagiarism connected with his PhD and the many claims he made which were proven to be false, along with items on his CV, such as a book which was never published. Eventually Arday fell on a sword of his own making, though he had help along the way in forging that sword, both from academics and their institutions, and possibly also from friends and colleagues who assisted him in the background with his seemingly unlikely, yet publically stated goal of attaining a professorship. With the public around the world intrigued by the number and range of his often outrageous claims, the story of the rise and fall of Jason Arday held the public's attention throughout August 2026. The implications of the revelations therein, however, were to have a greater impact upon the higher education sector and its seeming anti-intellectual adoption of DEI and WOKE ideologies, much to their detriment and ridicule, and most noticeably for Cambridge University.

The Arday case raises and highlights a number of significant issues in regards to the operations of Western academic institutions in the first decades of the new millennium, but most specifically alongside issues around WOKE ideology and the adoption of DEI (Diversity, Equity and Inclusion) by major cultural, educational, political, business, entertainment and government organisations. On the surface it appears to be another example of the Two-Tier virus that has infected Great Britain, in both policing and academia, where preference is given to People-of-Colour (POC) over so-called White races supposedly wallowing in privilege. This distorted racism is real. The claim that Arday was promoted through the academic ranks due to his colour, autism and youth is made, and the evidence tends to support this. It is a fact that when concerns were raised in regards to his Cambridge appointment, the university reacted with accusations of racism against those making the claims, rather than simply accepting them and investigating as would be the normal process. Arday also censored such claims against himself with legal and police interventions. In all these instances a cowardice to "face the truth" is apparent as he turned towards claims of racism and personal harassment.

The truth about Arday's 2015 thesis and the degree of plagiarism is damning (Cofnas 2026). It is also a shoddy piece of work and perhaps did not deserve to be accepted. Once again, accusations have been rife amongst Western academic institutions during the 2000s that standards have lapsed across the board as they have become commercialized and accepted candidates with less than ideal credentials, with pressure placed upon supervisors to pass at all costs in order to be able to claim substantial amounts from governments who do so for completed theses. This is apart from the exceptions made in the pursuit of an affirmative action agenda which was decidedly racist and discriminatory. Arday appears to be both a user and a victim of an academic promotions system which supported his movement through it and ignored any problems along the way.

As Nathan Cofnas noted in a discussion with former Cambridge academic and commentator David Starkey, the WOKE ideology is based on the premise that there is no inherent racial difference when it comes to intelligence or competence; that differences either positive or negative are due entirely to environmental factors, and that if those factors are removed all people are equal. Therefore, if affirmative action is put in place through programs such as DEI, the outcomes will be normalized across races. The Arday case points to the failure of this ideology, and it is just one of many seen in the public sphere over recent years. The abandonment of merit and its replacement by a check box of excuses is problematic to say the least. It results in allocating positions to people who do not have the necessary skills or competency to achieve the expectations of the organisation, whereas if the choice were made on merit, there is much more likelihood that those expectations would be reached. Arday was a good example of an individual failing because they were place in a position where there personal competencies were not sufficient. In such cases the effect on the individual can be catastrophic, whereas if they had been placed in a position that was consistent with their skills and abilities the outcome would have been decidedly more positive. This applies across races. It also ignores socio-economic factors which play a large part in so-called discrimination across society, regardless of race.

Anyone who would criticise this modern DEI system is immediately "cancelled" and termed a racist or some sort of phobe. Needless to say, this does nothing to fix the problem; it merely silences those critical thinkers who rightly see the problem and seek to correct it. Meanwhile successful participants become psychologically damaged victims.

Jason Arday was the poster boy of the anti-Racist / Whiteness / Decolonization / Critical Race Theory academic chasm which needed filling. He came along - or was pushed along - at the right time (c.2015) and by simply reveling in his Blackness and the white guilt trope of disadvantage and discrimination as applied to all POCs, he was given a role in academia beyond his abilities and which ultimately fell apart a decade later. If three things had of happened then his catastrophic fall from grace would not have taken place, at least in the mind of the present writer. Those three things are:

1. Plagiarism of his 2015 PhD thesis. This was the straw that broke the camel's back, the academically unforgivable action which diminished the value of all his subsequent work, academic and elsewhere. And rightly so, for plagiarism, then and now, is seen for what it is - cheating. It also points to, or implies, a lack of intellectual capacity and rigor on the part of the perpetrator. It is the primary rule of academia and it was clearly broken by Arday. The plagiarism is proven, though the awarding institution - Liverpool David Moores University - has refused to withdraw it and concluded "there is nothing to see here!" Of course there is also blame on the part of those who facilitated his rise to fame. This includes the supervisor of his thesis and other assessors of his subsequent academic work. They all appeared to have given Arday a free pass in assessing his research equitably, perhaps due to pressures brought to bear upon them, or self-inflicted, in pursuing the DEI / WOKE agenda and abandoning the universal academic standard of merit-based performance evaluation. This was definitely an own goal here on the part of both Arday and the academic establishment.

2. The making of Arday into a Professor. If Arday's true talent and skills had resulted in him being given the role of Director of a Racism and Ethnicity Institute, or something similiar, within an academic environment, he most likely would have survived and still be seen as "the best in the world" by those who support and promote that strand of DEI / WOKE academia. As a director he could have more easily straddled the worlds of academic and popular culture, with less emphasis on the strictness of academic output and supervision, though he was in a discipline where that strictness is not as precise as within the hard sciences and therefore easily accommodated. His use of personal narratives, friends as research participants, and non-scientific or rigid analysis techniques diminished the value of his work - it was actually ridiculed - when the issue of his academic legitimacy was raised during 2025-26.

3. The eccentricities of his life story. The lies, distortions and "bullshit artistry" was extreme, and Arday never backed away from it. He never "fessed up" and the public judged him accordingly. This eccentricity was the element which would most easily have been set aside, especially within the realm of British academia and public life where it is either applauded (viz. Monty Python's Flying Circus's birth out of the Ox-bridge melting pot) or quietly ignored. Without those eccentricities and lies the popular media would have had less to fill out their analyses and attacks on both Arday and the academy.

It was a fact that these three elements - plagiarism, professorship and promiscuous personality - led to his personal and public downfall. In looking back over Arday's achievements, his CV and the accolades given him, it is easy to understand how those at Cambridge University who employed him were so effusive and genuinely thought they had struck gold. Unfortunately it was fools gold, and they were ultimately left with nothing to defend, and a diminution of organisational reputation.

Finally, it can be argued that Jason Arday is promoting his agenda was, in fact, racist, especially towards white people, or those not-of-colour. The evidence for this is seen in his many publications and presentations, some of which present a personal victim mentality which is core to Critical Race Theory, which in turn claims not to blame individuals, but ultimately does, viz., "Park your white privilege." His actions, and that of those of his ilk, generates and amplifies racism across society, rather than diminishes it (Integral Views 2026).

The often outrageous nature and believability of Arday's claims in hindsight reveals that he and his possible helpers manipulated the DEI and so-called "WOKE mind virus" system. This took him and others down a path which abandoned critical thinking and merely "checked all the boxes" in order to gain political, legal, government, business and community (partial at least) support. By the time Jason Arday was exposed, the public and media were ready to open up and begin to question why a person such as he, of obvious limited academic ability, got as far as he did and was not stopped at the gate a decade before. Arday was, throughout, pandered to by academia and worked the system to his advantage. His various CVs, public statements and publications contain a litany of bullshit wrapped in jargon, ultimately revealing a lack of academic talent hidden behind a smile and snake oil charmer, convincing many of his academic colleagues who were riding the critical race theory hobby horse that he was the greatest thing since sliced bread, and believing they were on a sure thing. They weren't, and neither was he.

2. Chronology

The following is a chronology of known or alleged events in the life of Jason Arday. It is based on the text from various Jason Arday CVs and other statements of achievement posted by organisations prior to August 2026.

1985

* 1985 - Jason Arday is born in London on 9 May 1985 to parents from Ghana. He has stated that he was unable to speak, read or write during early childhood, though claims by others would suggest that this is not true.

1988

* 1988 (age 3) - diagnosed with Autism, Global Development Syndrome A (identified 2003) and Asperger's (identified 1992). It has been noted that the latter two were only formally diagnosed after 1988, so any formal diagnoses could only have come later.

1990

* circa 1990 (age 5) - Attends Heathbrook Primary School, Nine Elms, London, and also Sunday School through to 1995. A fellow student reported in 2026 that Arday used to talk and sing like any normal kid.

1992

* 1992 (age 7) - Appeared as a child on the famous Seven Up documentary series. This is false, as it required him to have been born twenty years before he was actually born. He later claimed it was a local version of that show, and not the original TV series.

1996

* 1996 (age 11) - first speaks. As noted above, in 2026 fellow students have stated that Arday could always talk at school, though he was also a quiet child.

2001

* 2001 (Age 16) - becomes a snooker champion. No evidence has been found to support this.

2002

* 2002 (Age 17) - began competing in charity sports challengers such as running, to raise money.

2003

* 2003 (age 18) - Whilst attending high school Arday learns to read and write at the age of 18, supported by lessons provided by the government medical service and his mother. The amount of lessons he said he received is beyond the realm of that known to have been provided to any person by government.

* 2003 - Arday states he was attacked by four boys and develops epilepsy. At various stages in his life he also claims to have had brain tumors and testicular cancer.

2004

* 2004 (age 19) - Attends school and graduates from high school with 2 GCSEs in Physical Education and Textiles. It is likely that he had a normal schooling throughout his life, and the claims to the contrary are false.

* c.2004 - Completes a BTEC course at Merton College in sport and development.

* c.2004 - Spent time at Crystal Palace Football Club - False.

2005

* 2005 (age 20) - enters St. Mary's University, Twickenham, to do a Bachelor of Arts in Education Studies and Physical Education.

2006

* 2006 (age 21) - Carries out overseas charity work in Brazil for a charity called Water Aid. The charity later claim that they never send people overseas and therefore this assertion is likely false.

* 2006 - Lecturer in Sport, Merton College.

2007

* 2007 (age 22) - Lecturer in Sport, Merton College.

2008

* 2008 (age 23) - Graduates from St. Mary's University, Twickenham / University of Surrey, with a Bachelor of Arts (BA) Honours in Home Education Studies with Physical Education.

* 2008 - Becomes Athletics President at the Students Union upon graduation.

* 2008 - Teacher of Physical Education, Southfields Community College, London.

* c.2008 - Ran 30 marathons in 35 days, 9 with a broken leg - False.

2009

* 2009 - Teacher of Physical Education, Southfields Community College, London.

* 2009 (age 24) - Undertakes an MA at St. Mary's University, Twickenham.

* 2009 - Lecturer in Sociology, Richmond Upon Thames College, London.

2010

* 2010 - Lecturer in Sociology, Richmond Upon Thames College, London.

* 2010 (age 25) - Undertakes an MA at St. Mary's University, Twickenham.

* 2010 - reported that the ran 35 marathons in 30 days for the Shooting Star Children's Hospice (Rucki 2012). No evidence for this, nor for the claim that he ran 600 miles in 6 days. He later claimed he did the latter in 12 days.

2011

* 2011 - Lecturer in Sociology, Richmond Upon Thames College, London.

* 2011 (age 26) - Graduates with an MA in Education: Pedagogy and Professional Practice in Education, St. Mary's University, Twickenham, London.

His supervisor was ... whose expertise was in physical aspects of sport and had nothing to do with racism, blackness and related issues. Arday claims that he was poorly supervised.

* 6 November 2012 - Ben Solomon runs Jason Arday's Twitter account. This is according to a report in Johnny Walker Dread (2026). This person is also thanked in Arday's PhD thesis of 2015.

* November 2012 - Jason Arday flies to New York to meet Andy Murray. He had been nominated for this by Ben Solomon and partner Debbi McKenzie. Upon his return he appeared on ITV's Surprise Surprise program on 24 November.

* Alexander Rucki, Charity fundraiser inspires Andy Murray after appearing on Surprise Surprise, Your Local Guardian, 30 November 2012.

* ?2012 - Claimed to have raised £5.5 million for charity out of his association with 80 charities - False. He later claimed he was part of a secret syndicate of 100 people which raised the money, and therefore could not provide any details.

• Claims to have had a brain tumor operation two weeks before he was due to present a verbal defence of his thesis, and had to relearn all of the content.
• Clams of plagiarism by Arday have been substantiated by Cofnas (2026) and BlackBeltBarrister (2026). Turnitin etc. reveals numerous and substantial examples of plagiarism of Paula Zwozdiak-Myers PhD thesis of 2009. Arday occasionally references her thesis, but substantially uses large tracts of the thesis without noting such.
• Claimed therein that he carried out an academic study which had actually been undertaken by Paula Zwozdiak-Myers.
• Richard Dawkins latter criticizes the thesis and its supervisors (Dawkins 2026).

* June 2023 - Emeritus Professor David Harris of Plymouth Marjon University, Devon, begins questioning the academic work of Jason Arday and notices plagiarism and fabricated data. He emails Arday and receives an aggressive response criticising him for raising such issues, to which Harris responds (Harris 2026). Arday subsequently contacted the London police, accusing Harris of harassment. They in turn contact the Devon police who do not take up the matter. Harris also contacts Arday's head of department Professor Hilary Cremin of Cambridge, and also head of Research Policy and Integrity Dr. Morgan, who replies that the status of Arday's previous work is not their issue. Harris then contacts Martyn Hammersley who confirms his suspicions about the work of Arday and writes to Cremin and Morgan as well. Cremin subsequently wrote to Harris about Arday's parlous personal state and invited him to Cambridge for a cup of tea to discuss the matter. Harris did not take up the offer. Harris subsequently contacts Jack Grove of the Higher Education Supplement late in 2023 who follows it up during 2024-5.

Dear Colleagues, it is with profound sadness that I write to resign, with immediate effect, from my position at the University of Cambridge and Jesus College. When I accepted the extraordinary honour of becoming Professor of Sociology at Cambridge it was, without question, the greatest professional privilege of my life. To become the youngest Black professor in the University's history was something I could scarcely have imagined as a child growing up with a diagnosis of autism, unable to speak until I was eleven years old. The response from so many people across the world was overwhelming. Thousands celebrated not simply my appointment, but what it represented: that talent, perseverance and hope can triumph over even the greatest adversity. It has been the privilege of my life to teach my students, to learn alongside them, and to witness their curiosity, kindness and ambition. They have given me far more than I could ever have given them. Sadly, the years since my appointment have also been marked by an unrelenting level of public scrutiny and personal attack. While criticism is an inevitable part of academic life, what I have experienced has gone far beyond scholarly disagreement. The relentless accusations, speculation and public commentary have taken a profound toll on me and on those I love. I have tried to continue because I believe deeply in the values of higher education, in rigorous scholarship, and in the transformative power of universities. I have tried because of my students, my colleagues and the countless people who have written to tell me that my journey gave them hope. But there comes a point when the personal cost becomes too great. I have a family. I want to be present for them. I want to reclaim some peace, some privacy and some semblance of an ordinary life. I no longer wish to feel as though I am living under a constant spotlight, where every aspect of my life is subject to public examination and judgement. For my own well-being, for my family, and for those who have stood by me throughout this difficult period, I have concluded that the only way to bring this chapter to an end is to step away. This decision should not be interpreted as a loss of faith in scholarship or in the values that first brought me to Cambridge. Nor should it be mistaken for an acceptance of the narratives that have surrounded me. 5. DEI / WOKE

What is the cause of the whole Jason Arday issue? It is clear that at the heart of the matter is the post-2010 rise of DEI / WOKE / Critical Race Theory, which is based on the following ideology:

• All people are equal.
• If outcomes are not equal, then there must be a reason for that, and the reason must be discrimination of some form, but primarily racial, and largely by whites against blacks, but it can also be gender based or due to socio-economic factors. As a result, a whole swathe of reasons can be used to define discrimination and defend anti-discrimination activities.
• It denies the reality of individual and group competencies.
• In order to address and correct that, positive discrimination / affirmative action is deemed necessary.
• This is, in turn, a form of discrimination, and racism.
• This philosophy also diminishes the factor of individual responsibility for personal outcomes, which are related to the fact that all people are not equal.
• It also creates a blame culture towards those who are held responsible for the aforementioned negative outcomes or perceived discrimination, even though that may have occurred in the past, and those in the present are not actually responsible for it.

6. What about me! The student dilemma

The other major issue here in the Arday case is the outcome for his students. If the academic teacher is an intellectual lightweight with no high level of knowledge as would be expected from a Cambridge professor, with no necessary wisdom, expanse of knowledge and academic integrity, then the outcome for the students is going to be very much less than expected . What is their return on the investment they are putting into the course - both personal and financial? Students have during August 2026 expressed concern over Arday's teaching methods, and the low quality of the experience. For example, one mentioned a 4 hour lecture / workshop set down, in which Arday was only present for 1 hour and overall did not provide useful information or sources for the follow up assignment. His marking was also problematic. For example, in one noteworthy incident, when a female student expressed concern over how she had been marked down, Arday's response was that this occurred because she had expressed "White privilege." What!!? What? This reveals the inherent problem in employing so-called academics based on DEI and not on merit, which involves competence and experience. The aforementioned comment by Arday to the student could be classed as a form of racism on the part of the professor. As such, it is entirely inappropriate. Teaching and learning at an institution like Cambridge University is all about quality and truth: The quality of the course, the quality of the teachers, the quality of the support. And if that quality has been compromised, then Cambridge needs to address the issue and repair the damage. Degree experience has has been lessened because of the employment of someone such as Jason Arday.

7. Who Killed Jason Arday?

The announcement of the death / suicide of Jason Arday on 14 August 2026 was shocking and sad, leaving behind as he did a wife and family of two children, along with all those who genuinely cared for and loved him. Arday in death, as in life was, will perhaps forever remain an enigma: a neurodiverse individual who rose from profound intellectual disability during his youth to be professor at one of the world's most esteemed university's - Cambridge University in England. His story was incredible and, as his narrative spectacularly unravelled during late July and early August 2026, it was shown to largely be a fantasy, based only in part on fact. The present writer, in doing a deep dive into the life and times of Jason Arday during those early weeks of August, and prior to any reading of his newly published memoir, was left in the days immediately prior to his death with the question: Who was behind this Jason Arday phenomenon? That is, who did all the academic work such as compiling his thesis and subsequent research articles which, though flawed, were obviously beyond the competency of the young man himself; who ran his very active promotion machine which saw Arday receive, for example, five honorary doctorates in the years 2023-2026 and countless appointments to boards and committees, the number of which was, once again, way beyond the abilities of any single person to do justice to? The obvious answer was - A person or group of individuals "created" the Jason Arday avatar! Such a "conspiracy theory" scenario is discussed elsewhere below. However, a more reasonable question to ask is: What was behind that smiling, glowing, big-eyed faced individual who expressed a determination to be a professor? The answer is, that there was something, and somebody, entirely more fragile. Upon his death, the question which arose within the public discourse was more prescient:

Who killed Jason Arday?

Three answers are possible.

(a) The first, and most obvious answer, is: Jason Arday. Evidence is strong in that regard, due to the very nature of suicide and his statements leading up to that. For example, immediately following the release of the Cofnas material on 21 July 2026 outlining the extent of his plagiarism, and the initial defence and rebuttal by Cambridge and others, Arday went mute and disappeared from the scene. When, bowing to public pressure, Cambridge announced on 5 August an official investigation into the claims, Arday immediately resigned from his position and posted the the aforementioned statement to his Cambridge colleagues

In this statement Arday makes no admission of guilt. It is, in fact, disingenuous, as it was shown to have been AI generated and reads as such - an almost emotionless and somewhat celebratory narrative which aims to maintain the very facade he and others had created and maintained to the very end. There is no sincerity in this statement; no truly personal voice of Jason Arday, at least in the view of the present writer. No cry for help. For example, Arday speaks of his family and looking forward to wanting to be present for them, but the suicide is a rejection of that claim.

After releasing the resignation statement Arday remained went to ground, despite the imminent release of his memoir by the American publisher Simon & Schuster and for which he was apparently given a $1.4 million up front payment. The book was notably produced with a professional ghost writer. He did not leave his London residence, where he was found dead on afternoon of 14 August 2026. The public was subsequently informed that throughout this period Arday was surrounded and supported by family and friends but, nevertheless, had determined - and stated to that effect - that he felt there was nothing to live for. The following interview with barrister and friend Joylon Maugham, founder of the Good Law Project, and others, reveals relevant aspect of his final days:

Arday appeared, from these comments, to be suicidal. The ultimate result of that state are mind are clear to see. In such a case, whilst obviously feeling compassion for the outcome, one rightly asks: Why didn't Arday come out in public and admit his guilt, seek forgiveness, and hopefully find a new path wherein his obvious talents and skills would be utilised? If he was surrounded by family and friends, why did he commit suicide? These questions obviously reflect a psychological naivety on the part of the present writer, but they are nevertheless legitimate.

There existed a further alternate for Arday, at least following a public and self admission of his past, and specifically the plagiarism and fantastical exaggerations. For example, his leadership abilities would have been useful in leading a student / academic support centre focussed around the issues he was most expert in, namely racial discrimination and education. Removing him from the unwieldy and inappropriate professorial position would allow him to lead a more normal life, out of the public gaze. Instead, it seems he took the coward's way out and committed suicide. Whilst this assessment may seem harsh, and lays the ultimate blame fairly and squarely with him, it is just as real and relevant as all those assessments which seek to blame Arday's death on everyone except the man himself. At the age of 41 Arday should have had the maturity to look to a positive future, where the issues of the past are in large part left behind.

(b) If Arday is not to blame for his death, then who is? The answer is revealed in a recent Substack article by Paul Tivambe Zeleza (2026) which goes through all the suspects and entities responsible for his killing, using the soothing and often incomprehensible CRT ideological language of the academy as follows:

• A convergence of forces that reveal the fragility of the racial settlement in post-imperial and postcolonial Britain and the contradictions of its elite institution.
• White liberal proponents of performative inclusion who propelled him, shrouding him with the aura of heroic exceptionalism.
• White liberal symbolic capitalists, a highly educated professional class that converts the visibility of marginalized individuals into moral and cultural currency.
• Cambridge University killed Arday.
• The media killed Arday.
• The heavy burden of racialized expectation and representation, with Arday serving as an avatar of racial uplift among his fellow minoritized academics, fulfilling the desperate desire to enter and belong in the unreformed white elite citadels of academia.
• The hollowness of contemporary DEI practices in Britain and elsewhere in Euroamerica killed Arday.
• Poor academic vetting killed Arday.
• The myth of meritocracy killed Arday.
• Publishers killed Arday.

Zeleza blames everybody except Arday in this lengthy diatribe, which is nevertheless useful in bringing together in one place the majority of those arguments presented in the deferential defence of the late professor.

(c) If, however, Arday was from the very beginning a mere tool and puppet - a Manchurian Candidate if you like - the question arises amongst those of us who relish conspiracies: Was Arday murdered by that same person, or group, who had used him as a poster boy of neurodivergence, Blackness, racism and critical race theory over all those years since circa 2012? Once again the answer is: Possibly, if indeed he was being manipulated.

This third claim, unlike the second above, is not about shifting the blame, for in the Arday case that blame is clearly present on numerous fronts beside the man and extends beyond the borders of Great Britain - it is primarily those academic institutions and individuals globally who drove the DEI / WOKE agenda; corporations seeking prestige and profit; the legal fraternity who supported legislation and criminalization of critical thinking which they labelled racism; government, which supported WOKE and DEI discrimination through ignorance and cowardice; media - both legacy and social; and those in society who saw that a person such as Arday could be a figurehead for their preferred social agenda, often in the fave of rational thought and behaviours. However, one of those to blame is obviously Arday himself, for either (1) being wholly responsible for the Jason Arday avatar, or (2) being simply a puppet who wholeheartedly went along for the ride as one of the co-conspirators, fully aware of what he was doing, and doing his best to maintain the facade. The possibility that he was a Manchurian Candidate and through brainwashing was not responsible for his actions is not considered in this instance, though it may be part of the ultimate truth if revealed. They often say "Only time will tell", though in this instance the writer feels that it will not.

It would seem that, for a long time, there were two Jason Arday's - the real one, and the public, delusional one who plagiarised and lied, with the latter taking over his life to the degree that he truly believed in it and would get angry and upset at anyone or organisation that would question it (Cross 2026). Why? Was it some form of self-loathing which caused him to reject his reality, perhaps being subject to racism as a child? Was it Delusional Disorder, previously called paranoid disorder, which is a type of serious mental illness whereby individuals cannot tell what is real from what is imagined and each a state whereby they are not truly self-aware? Were there elements of Imposter Syndrome, where delusion or self-doubt drives one to maintain the facade at all costs, rather than being exposed as a fraud (Sachdev 2024). And what of those around Jason who loved and cared for him - were they aware of this other, false persona, or was it the only one they knew? Whatever the case, they were ultimately powerless and could not save Jason Arday from his ultimate action.
