Introduction
During July 2026 the writer was asked by a friend to comment on a YouTube video from the Ancient Aussie channel which raised issues around a group of strange places and actions in Queensland, Australia, which were to some degree inexplicable.
10 Ancient Structures in Queensland no one can explain, Ancient Aussie, 4 June 2026, YouTube, duration: minutes.
The structures and actions were as follows:
- Gympie pyramid, with terraces. The narrator questions the origin of the artificial structures.
- Quinkan Country Indigenous rock art, up to 40K years old, with Quinkarn spirit figures. The narrator questions the gap between the various rock art ages.
- Kenniff Cave with rock art dating back 3.5k ya and human habitation 19.5k ya. The narrator questions the gap between the two ages.
- Chillagoe-Mungana, Atherton Tableland caves in limestone rock towers with rock art. Nothing controversial is noted.
- Boodjamulla: Waanyi Water Country. Rock art amidst a landscape with some water and a gorge. Nothing controversial is noted.
- The Ancient Villages - in 1871 a village of 173 huts was recorded at Thunderpurty lagoon. Includes ritual structures and other evidence of life over several square kilometres. The controversy is the fact that the country had been listed elsewhere(?) as uninhabited.
- Mithaka Country - Lake Monoun / Kirrenderri with more than 25,000 Aboriginal quarry pits producing goods traded across the continent as part of Australia's Silk Road.
In viewing the video, the following editorial elements should be note:
- Within the video and its advertisement, the narrator inserts images from external and foreign archaeological sites which are not actual images of the sites in question. These are clearly misleading and exaggerate the viewers subsequent perception of the Australian sites under discussion.
- The "no one can explain" in the title of the video is misleading. For example, the narrator's suggestion that the age of the Quinkan rock art sites is in some way inexplicable does not hold up. The ages presented are variable, and this is normal for such sites, due to the very nature of dating archaeological materials.
The maker of the video can be criticised for these actions. For example, no external, non-original images should be presented, as they are confusing and mislead the viewer. Do they negate the arguments presented? Not necessarily, but they do diminish the impact of the presentation and bring into question the truth or otherwise of the narratives being presented.
The present writer had previously addressed similar strange phenomena and issues, such as the fact that since the 1860s there have been sightings and encounters in Australia with non-native Black Panthers. However, none of these animals had ever been captured, and their presence could never be explained away in any reasonable manner. As a result of this, the seven items in the video, and other such issues, the writer proposed to the friend that a study would be made of each and a personal view as to their veracity be offered. This article is that response. Therefore, below are various links and brief descriptions of some of these Australian oddities, with associated comments.

Oddities
Of the items mentioned in the Ancient Aussie video, only the Gympie Pyramid is worth further investigation.
* Black Panthers
The writer had previously addressed this issue in the following article here:
Bulli's Black Panther and Australian spirit cats, 6 September 2023. An historical listing of Australian sightings, plus links to videos which discuss elements of Black Panther mythology. [Blog]
Opinion: It is the present writer's opinion, therefore, that these creatures are real, in that they are inter-dimensional (i.e. exist on earth in another dimension) and as such are only observed by those whose can access that dimension. They are like the faerie realm - real but largely inaccessible.
* UFOs / ETs / Aliens
Though the writer has never personally encountered any extraterrestrial beings of machines, a variety of articles have been written on this issue as it pertains to Australia and elsewhere since 2021. They can be accessed here:
Alien base at Mount Zeil, Australia, 9 January 2024. Account of the ancient Alien base identified during the 1970s by CIA remote viewers. [Blog]
Opinion: The writer believes in the existence of UFOs and related Extraterrestrial / Alien beings.
* Faërie realm
The existence of faërie is addressed in the following articles and related items:
Faërie in Australia, 29 June 2023. A discussion of the subject of faërie as it applies to Australia. [Blog]
The faërie realm of Joan Lindsay's Picnic at Hanging Rock, 18 July 2023. Discussion around the deleted chapter 18 from Joan Lindsay's 1967 book. [Blog]
Opinion: The writer believes in the existence of the extradimensional faërie realm.
* Black Mountain
A strange geological formation in northern Australia known as Kalkajaka / Black Mountain has confused scientists and the community for years. It is a mountain made entirely of black rock boulders. Its formation is geologically inexplicable. It is regarded with fear by local Indigenous people, mainly due to the fact that over a long period people have disappeared on the mountain. The issue is outlined in the following video:
What scientists keep finding at Australia's Black Mountain has shocked the entire world, Ancient Aussie, 11 July 2026, YouTube, duration: 20.05 minutes.
Opinion: The writer has an honours degree in geology from the University of Wollongong. As such, he believes that, like the famous Hanging Rock in Victoria, this geological location is in some way a portal to another dimension or dimensions.
* Gympie Pyramid / DJaki Kundu
"A rounded sandstone terrace, with six or seven steps up its southern face" so opens the Lost Australia and Ancient Aussie video on the Gympie Pyramid. It also includes some small retaining walls and Aboriginal grinding grooves. The terraces are interesting, but not extensive or evidence of a pyramid construction. They were built in association with a local vineyard and to stop slope erosion.
Australia's Secret Pyramid, Lost Australia and Ancient Aussie, 10 July 2026, YouTube, duration: 10.01 minutes.
Opinion: It looks like a normal Australian mountain, with some specific and European introduced rock arrangements of a limited nature. It is not a pyramid.
