Classic Australian cinema - streaming



Introduction

The following is a chronological listing of classic Australian cinema, primarily comprising feature films mostly available free on platforms such as Kanopy, Tubi, the Internet Archive and YouTube. Films can also be found on pay-per-view and subscription streaming platforms such as Netflix, Prime Video, YouTube Premium and Stan. Some of the earliest (i.e., pre-1970s) are sourced from the National Film and Sound Archive of Australia (NFSA). Within the streaming platforms some items are only made available for a short period of time and then deleted, whilst others are permanently available. The quality of the material varies, with YouTube postings often of low quality, having been uploaded from old VHS video material initially made available during the 1970s. Upgraded and restored sources may exist but are not necessarily available on streaming platforms. With the possible gradual demise of DVDs, BlueRay and 4K discs, material available through distributors such as Umbrella Films are becoming increasingly scare. Good examples include the box sets for The Story of the Kelly Gang (1906) and The Sentimental Bloke (1919). Such items are not listed here.
